The hardest lesson I had to learn about running a business

A few years ago, I hit a wall.

Not just a bad day or a stressful week—I’m talking full-body exhaustion, a constant feeling of frustration, and the creeping thought: I don’t know if I can keep doing this.

I was working constantly, trying every strategy under the sun, saying yes to everything… and yet, somehow, I was still stuck.

The business I had once been so excited about had started to feel like a never-ending treadmill, one I couldn’t seem to step off.

I told myself it was just part of the process. That if I kept pushing, things would eventually click.

But the truth? I wasn’t building a business—I was building a cage.

The Breaking Point

At the time, I thought the problem was strategy. Maybe I needed a new marketing plan, a different pricing structure, a better time-management system.

So I kept tweaking things, hoping that this would be the thing that finally made it all feel easier.

It didn’t.

What finally forced me to wake up wasn’t another productivity hack—it was life itself.

Breast cancer put everything into perspective.

Suddenly, the hustle didn’t seem so important. The stress I had accepted as “normal” became unbearable. And I had to ask myself the hardest question of all:

Why am I running my business like this?

The Shift That Changed Everything

What I realised was painfully obvious in hindsight:

I had built a business that worked against me instead of for me.

I was following strategies that drained me, working with clients who weren’t fully aligned, and prioritising growth over my own well-being.

And the worst part? I thought that was just how it had to be.

So I made a decision. I wasn’t going to quit, but I was going to do things differently.

Instead of asking, How can I grow faster? I started asking:

  • What kind of business actually feels good to run?

  • What’s the easiest, most natural way for me to attract clients?

  • What would it look like if success felt effortless?

And when I started building from that place—everything changed.

What I Want You to Know

If you’re feeling stuck, exhausted, or like your business is running you instead of the other way around, I need you to hear this:

It doesn’t have to be this hard.

The way you’re working right now? It’s a choice. And at any moment, you can make a new one.

The strategies, tactics, and business models you’ve been told you should use? They don’t matter if they don’t work for you.

What does matter? Finding an aligned way of working that actually supports your energy, your strengths, and your life.

Because trust me—when your business fits you, everything flows. Clients come easier. Marketing feels natural. Success becomes inevitable.

And that’s exactly what I break down in my latest program: The Aligned Business Accelerator.

It’s not about working harder. It’s about working in a way that actually works for you.
